Bottom line: Outer space has now become a “battleground” for the world’s future Great Powers to seek their place. The United States has let its substantial spacefaring lead—achieved in the 1960s—languish. Other nations seek to take advantage of this. The circumstances are not dissimilar to those of the 1930s. America’s transition to a true spacefaring nation must now accelerate. Also see this talk by Gen. Kwast.
